How to turn on 2FA
Two factor authentication makes your account much more secure, because for login, it requires something you know (your password) and something you have (a login code from your phone or device).
This process requires that you have an app on your phone such as Duo Mobile, Authy, Symantec VIP (Required by Schwab) or 1Password. Google Authenticator also works if you already have it, but is not recommended, because if your phone is lost or broken, it doesn't have backups like the others do.
This tutorial uses Duo Mobile.
Hover over your initials in the upper right part of the screen and select Settings from the drop-down menu.
Click the Enable Two-Factor Login Authentication button.
When you initiate the two-factor authentication process you can come back at any time, but any changes will be lost if you don't save changes first.
Upon login you will be requested to enter your password. Enter your password and click the Submit button.
Enter your password and click the Submit button.
Two-factor authentication works by synchronizing this account with an authentication app that will give you an authentication code for your login process. The codes displayed are used in the event that you cannot receive two factor authentication codes. Copy or download these codes before moving to the next step.
- Copy: Copies all the codes for you to easily paste into a file
- Download: Creates a csv file named recovery_codes.csv with the listed codes
Note: Be sure to copy or download the recovery codes before moving to the activation process. These can be used instead of your device.
Once you have copy or downloaded the codes click the Next button.
Follow the steps to enable two-factor authentication and click the Enable button.
Open the authentication app on your mobile device and either manually input the code or scan the QR code. Duo Mobile will generate a time-based one-time passcode.
Enter the passcode into Step 3 of the Enable Two-Factor Authentication page and click the Enable button.
A message will display reading two-factor authentication is enabled and the button text changes to "Disable 2-Factor Authentication".
Log out of SmartRIA.
Login back in to SmartRIA and enter your code generated by your two-factor authentication app. Then click the Submit button.
You will have three attempts to enter the code correctly.

STEP 8: Logout of SmartRIA
STEP 9: Login to SmartRIA and enter your code generated by your two-factor authentication app and click the Submit button.
